OVERVIEW

Clarity throughout the journey.

An independent exploration of how in-train passenger information could become clearer, more timely and easier to understand at a glance.

Inspired by the move towards rail nationalisation and the older LED ticker displays still seen on the Tube, I explored an alternative built around visual hierarchy, motion and awareness of where passengers are in their journey.

THE EXPERIENCE
01 / VISUAL INFORMATION

Know where you are.

Clear next-stop and destination information, a dynamic route progress indicator, and status messages for doors, movement and timing. A simplified visual hierarchy is designed for quick comprehension.

02 / SOUND & ANNOUNCEMENTS

See it. Hear it. Understand it.

Original composed sounds and alerts accompany the fully animated interface. A custom LLM explores how announcements could support the visual information throughout a journey.

CHALLENGE / APPROACH

The right information at the right moment.

A scrolling ticker presents information sequentially. This concept asks how next-stop, destination and journey status could be understood together, without waiting for a message to scroll into view.

The approach combines persistent journey context with changing status information. Motion shows transitions, route progress provides spatial context, and original audio cues add another layer of communication.

OUTCOME

An animated concept for a better onboard experience.

The film brings interface design, animation, original sound and an announcement LLM into one passenger information concept. It forms part of my ongoing exploration of transport UX and passenger experience.

This is an independent concept, rather than a commissioned or deployed transport system. Passenger testing, accessibility evaluation and validation of announcement accuracy would be important next steps.
